If you mistakenly delete a treasured picture or important document, don’t worry, you can still recover your file.
How is it possible to recover a file that has already been deleted? When you send a file to the trash, and empty the trash, the file is gone from being able to access it from your operating system. However, what happens behind the scenes, or on the hard drive, is that the processor marks the sectors, or space, where the files were stored on your hard drive for the approval to be overwritten in the future. So, if you save new files, the computer already has the OK to write over the sectors where your deleted files were stored. That being said, if you do not overwrite this space with new info, then it is easy for a
data recovery company to get your files back. If you do write over your files with new ones, it is still possible to
recover your files, but your results may be limited.
The next time you mistakenly remove a file, here are the steps to take:
- Perform a search for your lost file. Many times, it is just lost or could be saved in a temporary folder.
- Look in your trash. You might get lucky and find it there.
- If all else is lost, don’t save any more information to your computer. Bring it to a file recovery company.
