The Windows 7 phone is coming out on November 8th. It won’t rival the iPhone in terms of beauty of ingeniousness, but it will probably win over some Windows folks. The whole point of the phone is to keep Windows users as well as, dare I say it, Mac users efficient in the workplace while on the go. And there are a few games and apps to help procrastinate along the way.
Here are the major wins for the Windows 7 phone. You can take Microsoft Office on the go. It is the best phone hands-down for opening and editing Word and Excel. The best part is that the phone supports SharePoint servers which allows you to save files to the cloud or to sync to your Windows Live SkyDrive account for easy access from your computer.
The keyboard works well. Just as the iPhone has, the touchscreen keyboard is intuitive and easy to maneuver.
The Internet browser is fast. Okay, the Internet Explorer is a step slower than the iPhone, but still faster than the Droid and other phones. Flash isn’t supported, but where is it? If you’re used to Internet Explorer, than the browser will suit you since it feels like a full-fledged Internet Explorer versus a sized-down phone browser.
Music is easy to play and sync. The phone uses Zune to sync with your PC and easily access your music library. It’s not iTunes, but you have unlimited access to new music which is a plus.
Samsung is one of the first phones to release the Windows 7 phone operating system on it. For Windows users, the interface will be a snap in terms of technical support and Windows support when syncing to the PC. It’s worth checking out if you’re a die-hard PC user who hasn’t felt comfortable with the previous Windows Mobile devices.
