RIM has announced that the new Blackberry phones will feature its latest version 7 operating system. Our Blackberry experts indicate the Torch 9810 will appear by early September; the Bold 9900 and Torch 9860 are due to come out in the fourth quarter, most likely late November / early December.
Will the latest operating system contain must-have upgrades? The phones look identical to the current ones. But, there are some changes under the hood and in the software.
What’s new with the latest Blackberry Bold 9900, Torch 9810, and Torch 9860:
- Faster speed! The blackberries all have 1.2GHZ and 768MB of onboard RAM which is pretty speedy.
- Better browser. Videos and graphics pop on the screen fast.
- Decent camera. The camera will be 5-megapixel which is par for the course on a smartphone.
- Voice enabled. Shout out web searches, content, and contacts.
- Separate work from personal. You can separate your business and personal life with 2 different sections.
Overall, the new Blackberries have some nice new features thanks to the Blackberry OS 7. But, will it validate running out to get a new phone? If you’re a Blackberry fanatic and cannot live without it, then you’ll appreciate these notable tech upgrades. If your company is running a Microsoft Exchange server and Blackberry Enterprise Server, then you’ll love the ability to connect via work and then to also have your own personal emails / profile as well. You basically have two separate phones or at least it feels like this with this ability. This is the only creative part of this new operating system which leads me to judge this operating system as not doing enough to fully compete with the iPhones as of yet.
