Many families and friends will be queued into the big game at 6:30PM on CBS. But, how does the network handle all the throughput. I’ll tell you how. There will be 84 Cisco access points, 8 million feet of Ethernet cabling, 260 miles of fiber, and 100 TB of storage all on a single CBS computer network.
Last year, when I was watching the Super Bowl, the TV reception was sometimes delayed. That’s due to the crummy TimeWarner Internet that is shared. So, if you have Cable Internet, there may be lag time since the Internet is a shared medium. Hence, if you’re whole apartment building is watching the Super Bowl, you’re shared Internet will be degraded for your individual use. CBS is trying to make up for any delay from last year. But, keep in mind that any shared Internet service, such as TimeWarner’s RoadRunner Cable, acts on its own for the shared pipes to buildings. On the flip side, FIOS and DSL are dedicated Internet services that should not be affected by heavy Internet use.
