One of our most popular computer services is recovering files. Recovering files might be needed due to a failing hard drive. File recovery may also be needed if the laptop is so messed up (i.e. bad motherboard), that the cost of repair doesn’t make sense. If the laptop is old, and the repair cost is close to buying a new one, getting a new laptop is the way to go. When doing this, file recovery is needed.
Keep in mind there is a difference between file recovery and data recovery. File recovery is simply extracting the files from a good hard drive. So, if the laptop is physically damaged inside, but the hard drive is physically okay itself, then
getting the files is simple and should be affordable. Data recovery refers to a physically failing or dead hard drive and is more expensive. Data recovery sometimes requires lab recovery which means that the hard drive must be in a Class 100 Clean Room so no dust or debris contaminate an open hard drive. Then, bad hard drive parts are swapped for good ones to rebuild the drive, and then recover the files.
To make this possibly more confusing, file recovery, itself, may have corruption within itself. File corruption could be caused by neighboring failed parts, such as RAM or a motherboard. If a hard drive is starting to fail, that could also cause file corruption. File corruption could cause certain files to lose information, such as a word document being cut off at 5 pages instead of 10. File corruption is recoverable like data recovery, but varies in success according to the severity.
