All sizes of companies have relied on their servers for various tasks. But, it a server right for your company?
A server may take on many different functions, such as: sharing files and contacts; creating users and group privledges; print sharing; application sharing, and more.
If you find yourself responding “yes” to the following questions, then a server might be right for your company:
- Is your company bigger than 5 people?
- Do you want to share e-mails, contacts, and appointments?
- Would you like to restrict access to folders and files to some employees?
- Do you need an automatic backup system for the company’s shared files?
- Do several people need to remote into your company’s network from home?
- Would you like automated error alerts with any network issues?
- Do you feel more secure and safe with your server in-house versus outsourced?
- Would you like to be more hands-on with your network?
If you answered “yes” to 4 or more of these questions, than setting up a server in your network is probably the right thing to do. You may have a network specialist first assess your network to see if a server / network installation might be the route to go. Keep in mind that sometimes all you need is a NAS device, or network attached storage, to share files among your company. But, if you want to do more than just file sharing, the server could be a good solution.
