Jailbreaking. A term that was once illegal and now isn’t. It now means a way to access all available apps, and many of them free. Specifically, Apple support has a stringent guideline process for app developers to follow. If they don’t follow Apple service protocol, they don’t make it to the Apple store. But, those who don’t make it are still worthy of downloading. These apps are not available for regular iPhone users. But, if you have a jailbroken iPhone, it’s all free game for you.
Here are some reasons why you should jailbreak your iPhone:
- Get access to the Cydia app store. This is where all the Apple app flunkies go to. In total, it makes up for the second largest app store and garners a lot of popularity.
- MyWi allows your iPad to have free Internet access through your iPhone’s 3G connection.
- Amazing widgets are yours. Weather, texts emails, and current calendar entries are all available on the fly.
- A world of themes are present. You can change your appearance to just about whatever you can think of.
- Can’t Facetime over 3G? No problem with a jailbroken iPhone.
- PlayAwake allows you to wake up to music, not those boring iPhone ring tone alarms.
- Play cool games like Nintendo!
In regard to functionality, the MyWi and Facetime over 3G are my favorites for jailbreaking your iPhone. As a disclaimer, please note that jailbreaking your iPhone could potentially also brick your iPhone. That means it could wipe out everything if you do it incorrectly. So, make sure you back up your phone first and have valid restore points. Also, the Apple genius bar does not warranty jailbroken iPhones so make sure to return it back to factory defaults before you trade up or have an iPhone repair performed.
