If you’ve upgraded to Microsoft Word 2007, you have already experienced all of the new computer tips and features. One cool feature is being able to change the text to bold or different colors just by hovering the cursor on the text. This is different than Word 2003 where you have to first highlight the text and then select the bold or color option up above on the toolbar. This is just one ease of accessibility feature that Word 2007 offers.
If you just upgraded to Word 2007, you will still have a majority of your files saved in Microsoft Word 2003 format which has the extension of .doc. Word 2007 has the extension of .docx. You may open 2003 and 2007 versions of Word if you have Word 2007 installed.
However, those with 2003 only installed need to install a special free download from Microsoft called the 2007 Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack. However, if the person with Word 2003 is not a tech expert and you want to make sure they can open your file, you can still direct your Word 2007 program to save in only 2003 format when going to the File -> Save As Option in the top toolbar. Saving your files in Word 2003 is a good option to do for those who only work with 2003 and if you want all of your files to be saved in the same format.
