Decabling our lives has been a constant struggle. We were excited with the wireless Internet came about. And of course wireless mice and keyboards. Now, Powermat has provided us wireless charging for our phones.
Here’s how it works. You have a mat that is big enough for 3 phones to charge. The mat comes with one universal AC adapter, a.k.a. power charger, that has power tips that will work with iPhone, Blackberry, and most cell phones. Or, and here’s where the cool factor comes in, you can purchase the exact receiver or case for your phone and you won’t need any cables whatsoever. This means that all you need to do is drop your phone on the mat and it charges! Definitely a cool way to charge your phones without worrying where your charger is.
The cost is reasonable. It’s $100 for the powermat and $30-$40 for each adapter you purchase. The downfall arises when you have to make sure your phone is flush with the receiver on the mat or else it won’t charge. The Blackberry receiver is easy to set up – it just replaces the battery door cover. The iPhone receiver, on the other hand, is a case that needs to be set up on the outside of the phone. Although it acts as a protective shield, many folks wouldn’t want to talk with this case since it is a bit bulk and heavier.
Overall, the tech support setup of this powermat is a piece of cake. Just plug it into the wall in an accessible area and charge away. This is definitely a nice breakthrough with wireless technology.
