Technology is not always available when you need it most. Or other times, computer issues may be resolved with a state-of-the tech solution. Part of knowing how to answer a tech issue is realizing if you should go bleeding edge of tech or more caveman-like. Here are several tech questions that have been posed over the last week so I thought I’d put them together below with their associated answers.
- What’s the best way to set up a home wireless network? Get an Apple airport extreme router. If your apartment is over 1,000 square feet or may have dead spots, get an Airport express to extend the wireless signal farther.
- How can I stream music cheaply? Get a free subscription of Spotify and play it off your computer or iPhone. You can get fancy and place your iPhone in a JBL or similar iPhone speaker dock and play your tunes louder.
- How can I set up my iPad for Internet access anywhere? Go with Virgin Mobile’s MiFi and hook up to 5 devices to the Internet no matter where you are. You can sign up as low as $35 for 2GB of data with no monthly contract. The MiFi itself is $100, but well worth it if you travel here and there and want Internet access at the drop of a dime.
- How can I access files on a plane? – Don’t count on your airline to have Internet access in the clouds, pun intended. If you have important docs, don’t rely on your cloud or online storage account. Bring along a thumb drive or store your files on your computer for easy access.
