The MacBook Pro has come out with a new technology within the computer support industry: the Thunderbolt! Cool name and even cooler function. It is 20 times faster than USB 2.0 and 12 times faster than Firewire. Its core purpose is the ability to use your notebook just as would on a high-end workstation, such as a Mac Pro.
What kind of computer services can benefit from the fast Thunderbolt technology?

The last service benefit is that the Thunderbolt port’s speed will be able to be used well when most computer offices or homes move from copper lines fiber-optic. For now, the Thunderbolt technology is more of a visionary one unless you have high-speed cables to your devices, such as DisplayPort and PCI-Express. The Thunderbolt gets praise for providing several adapters, allowing you to connect your USB devices, monitor, and firewire devices.

It is a great one if your device and cable is up to speed. If you use the adapter to connect your USB external hard drive, it will be as fast as the USB speed. At this current time, there are not a lot of devices that are as fast as the Thunderbolt technology is capable of. So, this technology support is more futuristic than anything for the normal computer user. That being said, it is a breakthrough technology-wise and a nice little 1-year Apple proprietary patent before the rest of the computer manufacturers can use the same Thunderbolt port on their own computers.
