Finding a laptop for your child is not easy. They either want to throw it across the room or trash yours. The HP Mini 100e is tailored towards the K – 6 group at an economical rate of $300. All sounds good, right? Well, when you dig a little deeper, you’ll find that this laptop doesn’t do anything favorably and in some ways lacks features than a typical netbook.
Here are the HP Mini 100e specs:
- Windows XP Home or Windows 7 Starter
- Atom N455 processor
- Intel NM10 Express chipset
- 1GB RAM memory
- Water-proof keyboard
There’s one missing feature that astonishes me: there is not integrated wi-fi! HP has provided an internal modem, but you’ll need to pay extra to have the netbook come with integrated wireless. Or you have an nyc computer technician install an external wireless device for you. That just drives me bonkers. How do you build a laptop without the wireless Internet in mind? That is just a recipe for disaster. You might as well give the kids a rock to stare at all day!
So, this HP Mini 100e gets 2 disappointing thumbs down for its lack of Internet access, out-of-the-box, and for HP’s lack of marbles on the design concept.
