The iPad has been very successful.  Why?  It’s not just a phenomenal product, but there’s absolutely no competition in its unique industry.  That competition part is about to end.  Here are some iPad-killers to check out prior to making your iPad purchase:

  • Archos 9 – Comes with Windows 7 Starter, 1GB RAM, 60GB Hard Drive; has an 8.9″ 1024 x 600 screen, and priced at $550.  This stands out for having Windows 7 on a tablet for all you Windows enthusiasts who don’t want to learn a new operating system.
  • Asus EeePad EP101TC – As the netbook favorite, Asus makes the easy transition to the tablet world.  This one comes with Android and due to come out in early 2011.  It is current having computer issues in its beta-phase, but check back by theend of the year for updates since this is my clear favorite to compete against the iPad.
  • Augen Gentouch 78 – Who said tablets aren’t cheap?  This one sells at Kmart for only $150!  It runs Android, has an 800-MHz processor, 256MB RAM, 2GB storage, card slot, and 720p video.  This is great to have as a cheap e-reader, Internet browser, or gadget for the kids.  Hey, if it breaks, you’re only out $150!

Overall, the tablet iPad killers or ramping up to get a piece of the pie.  Will they succeed?  I don’t think right away, butonce their second and third-generation devices prove to be on par with the same or better features than the iPad, they will compete with cheaper costs.  Overall, the tablets are easy in terms of computer support and navigation.  It will take a little time to get used to each of them, but once you do, you’ll be in pure tablet bliss heaven!
