Subscribing to the iPhone 4 AT&T data plan seems a bit ridiculous nowadays since wi-fi, or local Internet access, is available everywhere nowadays. Plus, the data plan they offer is usually more expensive than the typical plan for basic AT&T phones. It’s usually $15 – $25 more per month! If you buy an iPhone, you are required to subscribe to the $30 / month data plan in order to send/receive e-mails as well as browse the Internet. This is in addition to paying for the voice plan to make phone calls.
There is a new product called Cut My SIM which has changed the whole game. Okay, so this is not totally on the up-and-up, but who hasn’t heard of someone buying an unlocked iPhone nowadays. As a disclaimer, I do not promote this product, but as a computer consultant gadget aficionado, I always like to inform you on the best options and alternatives to your current IT products.
That being said, here’s how to use your iPhone 4 without subscribing to the data plan to save up to $300 – $500 /year:
- You must be a current ATT customer with an existing regular cell phone.
- Buy the $30 Cut My SIM device.
- Buy an unlocked iPhone 4 off of Ebay or NYC computer stores.
- Cut your existing SIM card from your ATT cell phone which will transform it into a micro SIM card, compatible for the iPhone 4
- Insert your freshly cut micro SIM card into your iPhone 4 to enjoy your cheaper data plan. You’ll be able to make voice calls too by the way.
- You may re-convert your micro SIM card back to the regular SIM card if you ever want to go back to your older AT&T phone.
The advantage of using your existing AT&T SIM card is to cut down on the heavy data plan charges AT&T charges for the iPhone 4 support. Also, you can use your existing voice plan and keep all of your phone numbers and personal information. The tech support setup here is pretty easy, but you might have to find a tech how-to guide online if you don’t know where to find your SIM card slot.
