Do you want to sync your iPod with a second computer?  Doing so will erase everything on your iPod?  Or will it?  This may come into question if you have a home and work computer.  Or if you had a computer crash and need to be up and running on a new computer.

Now, you can sync with another computer without wiping your iPod clean.  Just follow the below steps for your iPod Shuffle, Nano, or Classic:

If all music/content has been purchased from iTunes, install iTunes on your new computer, connect your iPod to the new computer and go to Store->Authorize Computer and authorize the computer to recognize it via iTunes.  Then, go to File->Transfer Purchases from “your iPod’s name.”

If some or all of your iTunes songs were not purchased via iTunes, in iTunes, go to Preferences->Devices and select “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically.”  For Windows users, use SharePod, a free utility, which will copy all info from your iPod to your computer.  Then, import it into iTunes still within the SharePod utility.  Mac users may use Senuti which performs the same functionality as SharePod.

A small note:  the new Senuti is only free for up to 1,000 songs.  The Senuti link provided is from an old version which doesn’t set a limit.  Your welcome!

The Apple setup or PC install for the iPod sync is very straight-forward.  It shouldn’t take more then the above steps.  Enjoy!
