The iPad is missing something: a webcam. The next version of the iPad is rumored to have a webcam, but until it actually happens, you can install a webcam on your current iPad. Now, not any webcam is Mac support compatible with the iPad.
You need to buy a special webcam made for the iPad which is the Looxcie. Okay, the Looxcie is really made as a phone wireless headset for iPhones, but it is made for the iOS 4.2 operating system which means it is compatible with the iPhone as well as the iPad.
Here are the Looxcie specs:
- Video chat / Camera functional
- 480 x 320 video recording 15 frames per second
- Record up to 5 hours of video
- One-touch button saves 30 seconds of video
The one drawback is the $199 price tag. I guess lack of competition here jacks up the price. If you’re a video conference or Skype junkie, this is a new feature to have on your iPad. The computer setup for it is a piece of cake.
