Not in the market to buy a new Mac? No prob, if you can get your hands on a used Mac, then I can show you how to set it up. Or if you just want to set it up for another user or prepare it to be sold, my instructions apply also.
- Back up – Back up any files you need to an external hard drive or online account.
- Boot to your Mac OS disc, hold down the C key for Snow Leopard and earlier versions or Command-R keys for Lion.
- Format – Open Disk Utility->select boot volume->format to Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) in Erase tab.
- Install operating system – Quit Disk Utility and continue with OS X installation and then set up the main account name and info.
That’s it. You just need 4 steps to set up a Mac for a new user or to start fresh. It’s good to do this for general IT maintenance also as your Mac could run slower over time due to gummed up cookies, cache, and files.
