How to import Outlook calendar into Windows Mail – ny email support

As part 3 of our fabulous (I’m still not sure if this word sounds more LA or if it just sounds outright snotty) e-mail migration segment, we will be discussing how to import your current Outlook Express calendar to Windows Mail. Wait a minute, Outlook Express doesn’t have a calendar!  So, to carry through the calendar import process into Windows Mail, we’ll be using Microsoft Outlook from the old computer.

This tricky part to this process is that Windows Mail will only import .ics files, not .pst’s or .csv’s that Outlook works with.  So, the process is a tad indirect, but works nonetheless.

Here’s how to import Outlook calendar to Windows Mail:

1. In Outlook, select your Outlook Calendar->File->Import and Export->Export to a file
2. Select Comma Separated Values (Windows)->Browse and select your Calendar->Next
3. Then choose where you want to save your file.
4. Then, open your gmail account or create one if you don’t have.
5. Open Google Calendar->go to left side of calendar page->click Add link in bottom right-corner
6. Click Settings->Calendar Settings->Calendars->Import Calendar->Browse->select your .csv file
7. Go again to Settings->Calendar Settings->Calendars->Export calendars->Save File
8. Go to saved .ics Google calendar file and make sure to extract it from the zip to a folder.
9. Double-click your .ics files and in the import window->select your calendar file->Open->Import

This is not a straight-forward process and if you lack computer support patience, this ought to be left to an e-mail expert.
