Google TV reinvents yet another piece of the technology support puzzle. How many times do you find yourself searching online with your laptop while watching TV? Or working on your desktop with the news or game on in the background?
Now, Google integrates the online world with TV, literally. The big selling point with Google TV is that you watch TV as well as search the Internet on the same screen. You can also perform a search, and the results will be drawn from the Internet as well as your TV! So far, HBO, CNN, and the NBA will be providing content, along with Netflix and Amazon’s video store.
The main philosophy here is that Google is looking to join the TV and the computer world while, of course, capitalizing on it. 5 billion folks watch TV so image the piece of the pie Google can attain. Also, Google will make the TV world more sociable by allowing users to tweet, like, and comment on shows, viewable by friends. Currently, kids and adults run to their computers to check email, search the Internet, and watch movies. Now, Google is making the Internet more interactive by adding the TV and social media components to it.
However, Google has to first break down the tech jargon so lay computer users understand the tech setup and why they should buy this new gadget. Remember TiVo? This was a disaster in the beginning since the average person didn’t know how to use it. There were many family members coming to the rescue for their Moms and Aunts on this one. It eventually took off and then the cable companies jumped on the DV-R bandwagon.
That being said, Google already has tons of followers and many people have lost hope in the Apple TV device. The new Apple TV only works through iTunes and content available is that through which Apple cuts deals with. The Google TV device is open source so that the content is the one already on the Internet that will be searchable by your TV. Big difference! I can’t wait to play with Google TV!
