If your laptop or desktop needs computer repair, do you know who to go to?  If you don’t have an in-house IT support team at your fingertips, then you might feel a little helpless.  If you bought your computer years ago and forget who you bought it from, what do you do?

You should follow a guide when you’re not sure how to repair your computer.  Don’t fret – here’s a simple 3-step guide for obtaining computer repair support:

  1. Are you still within warranty? Call your manufacturer (i.e. Dell, Apple, HP).  Do not e-mail or chat.  Make sure you speak with a computer manufacturer’s rep where you’ll get the most attention.  Inquire about the warranty and if you’re still within it.  Not sure, how to find your computer manufacturer’s phone number?  You can go online to find it, or you can contact New York Computer Help for a complete list of computer manufacturer’s phone numbers.
  2. Inquire about recalls and limited warranty specials. If your computer is out of warranty, still ask your computer manufacturer is there have been any recalls on your computer model of any limited warranty specials.  Your phone rep may not openly divulge this info so pry away.  Some computers that have been known to have defective parts may fall within some extended warranty period that you can take advantage of.
  3. If out of warranty, go to a local NYC computer repair shop. You should find an IT repair place that offers free diagnostics so you can see what your cost will be prior to the computer service.  Then, go ahead and fix your computer.
