Desktops are more durable and last longer than a laptop, true or false? This is one of those questions you think about, but may not pay too much attention to. Laptops are portable and don’t take up too much space. Generally, they are not as much of an eye sore also as the big desktops. Further, they don’t have the luggage, such as the keyboard, mouse, and monitor, that desktops demand.
But, if you’re interested in who wins the longevity race, it belongs to desktops. The answer is true. How are desktops more durable than laptops:
- Better ventilation – Desktops are larger and allow for more airflow. Thus, laptops overheat faster, causing motherboards and other components to fail faster.
- Easy computer replacement parts – If a part fails on a desktop, it’s usually a do-it-yourself’er part that’s easily swappable and cheap. Laptops, entail opening the whole thing up for a replacing a failed laptop part.
- Dead parts are easy to replace, such as a motherboard which is typically a $100 – $200 part versus a laptop motherboard or other integrated motherboard parts that deem the system at the end of its life. Plus, many laptop parts, such as the video or processor are integrated or sold together with the motherboard, rendering its price high enough to just buy a new laptop.
So, desktops last longer than laptops. They are cheaper to buy too. But, that doesn’t mean you’ll still buy one. After all, there’s a price to pay for convenience, portability, and saving space.
