Windows 8 will be coming out by the end of the year. Is your computer ready for the upgrade? Or do you need to buy a new PC?
The easiest way to check if your PC is Windows 8-ready is to download the Microsoft support upgrade assistant from the Windows 8 download site. Then, the program will determine if your current hardware and applications are up to the task.
If you’re not happy with downloading more Windows software, and are more of a DIY’er (Do-it-yourself’er), here are the minimum requirements necessary to load Windows 8 on your computer:
- 1GHZ processor
- 1GB RAM on 32-bit or 2GB RAM on 64-bit operating systems
- 16GB available hard drive space on 32-bit or 20GB available hard drive space on 64-bit
- DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver
Overall, a computer that was bought with Windows Vista and Windows 7 should be compatible for Windows 8. If you have a Windows XP computer, it’s time for you to upgrade!
