Boxee is an ingenuous technology where you can watch organized TV content from your computer or TV. When you set it up, it first scans and organizes all of your music, videos, and movies in categories, similar to iTunes’ process. Then, you can connect to its easy interface to view genres of TV stations, such as news, sports, or movies. This is a great feature instead of scanning hundreds of channels with regular cable TV for the type of show you’re looking for.
The cool factor comes in where you can utilize its social networking feature to see your friends online; check out what they’re watching, share easily to friends, and let others know if you like what you’re viewing. It is available for Apple and Linux, and will be releasing soon for PCs.
So, how does it work? You can use it off your laptop or desktop. Or you can take it a step further by using Apple TV to broadcast your computer signal to your TV. Or you can use a small computer like the Mac mini to connect to your TV and just use a wireless remote or keyboard/mouse to control the channel selection. The tech setup on this is fairly easy.
The 11-employee company of Boxee is pretty much just doing what others have failed to do. To create an easy interface of categorized TV channels while integrating it with your own computer content. And it uses Twitter to share content and socialize with friends. It really brings TV and social networking all together in one. This is definitely a great product to try.
