Your computer may not be so new any more, but that doesn’t mean it has to run like Grandma Moses. Just taking a few minutes out of your day every once a month will make your computer running like new again.
Here are 3 steps to speed up your computer:
- Get rid of unnecessary startup programs. Many programs you install will run at startup. That means that even if you’re not using them, they are still running in the background as soon as you start up your computer. You got it, they’re slowing down the works. Take control and get rid of any startup programs you don’t need by using Autoruns. It will disable startup software you don’t need. Don’t worry, it won’t remove the software, but just tell it to stop starting automatically.
- Get rid of the junk. So, you stopped the clunky startup programs, but what about the applications and files you just don’t need. It’s not easy to decipher what’s taking up so much space so install WinDirStat to point out space-hogging files and get rid of them.
- Have a leaner browser. Remove any browser toolbars and opt to go with Firefox or Chrome, not the sluggish Internet Explorer.
Applying these three steps on a monthly IT maintenance basis will have your computer running faster and smoother.
